Social Networking… and Christianity

Reports suggest that between 400 to 650 social networking sites exist today.  Of these 650 or less the fastest growing seems to be Facebook.  It boasts more than 500 Million active users with the average user having 130 “friends.”  Collectively users spend over 700 Billion minutes per month on this site.  Do not be fooled to think that this is only a United States phenomena, reports show about 70% of Facebook users are outside of the U.S.

So what does this have to do with Christianity?

1) As I just quoted, a vast amount of time is spent by most users making these “social networks” a part of their daily routines.

2) Many of those users making it a daily habit are Christians.

I do not suggest that social networks are sinful or wrong.  However, I believe that since they have become a normal part of life for Millions of people, as Christians we need to see them for what they are and for what they do not need to become in our lives!

We need to understand that what we do on the internet in the “virtual world” is a direct connection to our “real” lives that should always be devoted to God no matter what we are doing.  If you would like to hear more click on one of the links below to hear a study on Social Networking and Christianity!
